Description
The author’s second book is based on another icon of Scottish golf art, The Fathers of North Berwick Golf Club, sometimes known as The First Meeting of North Berwick Golf Club by Sir Francis Grant, PRA.
As well as discussing a highly significant, but little known work of Sir Francis Grant, the author explores the significance of this painting for Charles Lees in the creation of his masterpiece 15 years later. Research into the characters who made up the first 50 Members of The North Berwick Golf Club open a window on Scottish social history and the wealth creation of the preceding period. The author also traces the links that existed between St Andrews, East Lothian and Ayrshire, which led to the first Open Championship being held at Prestwick Golf Club in 1860.
